Hank Ballard and the Midnighters - A Proper Introduction to. CD

Hank Ballard's place in Rock and Roll history was cemented with the sexually explicated lyrics and gospel rhythms of his songs. Ballard with his group the Midnighters recorded several hits in the early fifties. "Work With Me Annie" and "Annie Had A Baby" both sold over a million copies even though they were banned. These amongst other jumping R&B and sweet ballads are included on this Intro. Hank Ballard was inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1990, a well-deserved honour for this immediately recognisable and idiosyncratic front-man who died of throat cancer on March 2, 2003.

70s Soul Sessions - 30 Original Soul Party Grooves DOUBLE CD70s Soul Sessions - 30 Original Soul Party Grooves DOUBLE CD
Come the '70s, it was the city of brotherly love that provided the blueprint, in particular through the Philly based labels, Philly Groove and Philadelphia International, with their smooth, string laden disco-inflected sounds and velveteen soft vocal delivery leading the way. The 70s also saw the invention of the sensual soul loverman in the form of Isaac Hayes, Barry White and Al Green and the political agitator through Marvin Gaye and Curtis Mayfield. What follows are some of the greatest, most beautiful soul tracks culled from the decade.

Brunswick is a name that has been part of the music industry since the 1920s originally releasing it’s back catalogue of recordings through the US arm of Decca. By the 50s the label had started working with new repertoire and in 1957 an artist was signed to Brunswick that would change the identity of the label forever. Jackie Wilson started a long string of hits with "Reet Petite" and by the late '50s and early '60s, he "was" the Brunswick label, accounting for almost all the label's album releases.
